 Whiskey 10's Tournament
As one of the nation's biggest St. Patrick's Day celebrations kicks off on the South Side of Chicago, the South Side Irish will be hosting the 6th annual Whiskey 10's Tournament in conjunction with the famed parade. The Whiskey 10's Tournament has quickly grown into one of the best 10's tournaments in the country, and is a great way for teams to shake off the rust and start their Spring Seasons! Men's, Women's, and College sides from Oklahoma to New York have all come together to ensure that teams will get to play clubs outside of their normal Unions. Each team will be guaranteed 3 games of pool-play with a playoff and Championship Match to end the day. After the Tournament, the SSI will host a free party at our neighborhood pub in preparation for the following day's South Side Irish Parade. Since Easter falls later in the year in 2009, the Tournament will also be a week later (which should offer some nicer weather than last year). Last year was the biggest and best tournament to date, so get your teams registered early before it fills up! Game Play
10's is a great way to begin a season! You get to hit and run for 10 minute halves, as we work off all of the rust from the long off-season. For those unfamiliar with a 10's lineup, it is made up with the following players: 2 props, 1 hooker, 2 locks, 1 scrum-half, and 4 backs. Each match consists of two 10-minute halves, with a 5 minute break between. It’s that easy!! Team Check-In
Each club should have a representative present at the Captain’s Meeting scheduled for morning of the tournament. Clubs will receive instructions for the day, and will be addressed by a representative of the referees. South Side Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade
There will be quite a few teams at Whiskey 10's from out of town this year. For those of you who may not be familiar with the South Side, this is also the weekend of the famed South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade. The parade takes place on Sunday morning, just a few short miles from our rugby grounds. Specifically, it begins on 99th & Western Ave (Chicago), and proceeds through 115th St. The route ends at Kennedy Park, where the South Side Irish will take on the Northwest Woodsmen in front of a neighborhood crowd. If you're interested in making an event of Sunday, plan to get to the parade by 10:00 AM, as the area gets crowds up fast with over a hundred thousand people out to celebrate!
